NEW TO
ST PHIL'S?
Great! We're so glad you're here. Everything you need to know should be here on this page...
A message from the Vicar
Welcome to St Philip's. We’re so happy you found our website.
This is a warm, friendly church, where we seek to meet Jesus, through worship and His Word. As a family, we desire to encounter something of His incredible love for us all.
We would love to welcome you here to at least one of the wide range of activities we offer through the week. (Take a look at what’s on)
Please feel free to get in touch if there’s anything else you want to know about our church.
Peter Smith - Vicar
When should I arrive?
Our Sunday services start at 9am and 10:30am. You may want to arrive a bit earlier, so you can take a seat and have a chat with us. Don't worry if we have already started. You can still come in and join us!
WILL I FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE?
We know coming to a new church, or to church for the first time can be a daunting experience, but we want to do everything we can to make you feel comfortable. You wont have to do anything you don't want to, and that can even include staying for the whole service. You can remain as anonymous as you want, but feel free to introduce yourself. We'd love to get to know you.
What happens at the service?
We come to church to meet God and to share life as a church family. During our service, there will be worship songs (words provided). Feel free to join in as much as you like. There will be prayers, a reading from the Bible & a sermon, where we look to unpack the passage & learn more about God through it. Then we like to go downstairs and chat over tea and coffee, which is a great place to get to know people.
What is there for my Children?
There is a creche area in church you can use during services too. We love having young people at our church and want to do all we can to teach them and to ensure they have fun. At our 10:30 service, our children's and youth groups take place. You can find out more about these on our "Youth" & "Children" pages. Even if they're loud and shouting during the service, every child is welcome!
What should I wear?
You don't need to dress up smart at St Phil's (although if you want to, you can). Church is about coming to meet God, not about how we look. Come in what makes you comfortable.
What provisions do you have to help disabled people?
We have a lift to get you upstairs for our services, a hearing loop for anyone with a hearing aid, and disabled toilets. We will do everything we can to help you access all we have to offer.
What should I do if I'm nervous about coming alone?
First of all, don't worry. We'd love to see you here. Our welcome team will be waiting at the door, and would be happy to help you out, get to know you, and make coming to St Phil's an enjoyable time. We have a caring church family, who would love to get to know you!
Am I expected to Give?
At plate for offerings is always available at each service, but we don't want you to feel obliged to give. If you'd like to, then please feel free. We love you no matter what you give.
I'm not sure what I believe? Can I come?
Of course. Even if you're just wondering about what Christianity is, you can come along. You don't have to join in anything you don't want to. We'd love to talk to you about what we believe too. If you want to explore Christianity more, maybe Alpha is for you.
I've still got questions
